A Day In The Village

Mumblings and grumblings this year about the annual A Day in the Village festivities.

The Citizen-Herald heard the following:

Not enough vendors.
Not enough activities for children.
Less vendors on the Square than in the past.
Not enough sinage/notification before the event.
More of the local businesses should have been open and/or involved.
The Basketball Tourney should have been held in the street so that everyone could see it.
Whatever happened to the Beer Tent?
There should have been more music and dancing.
It should go for the whole week-end - Friday, Saturday and Sunday with special activities for Fathers Day.

Well, Stockbridge, this is your gig. What do you think would have made this a better event? Or perhaps you thought that everything was fine.
Whatever your opinions, we'd encourage you to share them here with an eye toward improving the event for next year. What you think matters.
With that in mind, consider volunteering your time to make your ideas come to life for next year's A Day in the Village.
And, funnily enough, that was also a point of contention. Why do we call it A Day in the Village when it's actually two days in the Village?
Let's hear it, people.
Post your thoughts here. And don't forget to take the poll located to the right of this posting.

  1. The event is too spread out around town. We need to focus on our downtown - that's what this event is for to bring commerce to our downtown. All of the Saturday park events could have and should have been situated on the town square. We previously blocked off Center street between Main and Elizabeth for basketball 3 on 3 tournament; we had a stage in front of the old village office (electrical handy) for entertainment with bleachers set up on the square across from the old office. Mainly, this event needs to be simplified and situated in one place, other than the concert and fireworks at the park, nothing else should be there.

  2. I agree too spread out. This event seems to be getting smaller every year. They used to call it summer fest. Why did it change? Beer would be nice. Who was in charge of this anyway? Please vote people and let us know what we can do to make our town a destination. Vote, vote, and vote!!!!!

  3. The Stockbridge Chamber of Commerce is in charge of this event. It is alot of work and planning, I'm sure. Maybe for next year a committee could be formed and more people involved in the planning and promoting and recruiting of vendors. This could be a greater event and there should be many ways to showcase the downtown area and draw people in. A coupon book put together by our businesses would be a great thing to hand out, and would maybe bring people back. Just a thought.

  4. We need to start now. In order to recruit top notch vendors and crafters, we need a year of planning. And a coupon book would be a good start. And, the more volunteers the better! The chamber personnel are over worked, partly because the event is so spread out and partly because there are so few of them. Let's all step up to the plate, let's attend the next Chamber meeting, volunteer and get moving in the right direction!

  5. Is anyone else having trouble voting on the poll? I wonder if I'm doing something wrong? either way my vote is POOR. Each year is less people comming here, and less stuff to do.
