Saying Good Bye

Today, October 10, 2011, we bid a fond farewell to Stockbridge Treasurer Beth Flynn.
Flynn resigned her position effective immediately.
We will miss her friendly smile, her great attitude, her knowledge and her very real affection for the residents and employees of the Village.
We here at the Stockbridge Citizen-Herald wish her great good fortune at her new job. (which she beat out 200 other applicants for - way to go Beth!)
As another funny lady used to sing: "We're so glad we had this time together, just to have a laugh, or sing a song, seems we just get started and before you know it, comes the time we have to say so long!"
Bye, Beth.
Don't be a stranger.
We'll leave the light on for you.

  1. So sorry to hear. This is just one more mountain the council will have to climb. At least we won't be paying unemployment benefits like we're paying former manager Dancer, clerk Linda Dancer and Chief King. Who will be next? No money, inexperienced personnel, plus a bad economy, that's a good recipe for an already bad situation. Anyone with a good solution now would be the time to come forward.

  2. Well, maybe if the new clerk wasn't made an exempt employee, maybe if we had put her back on 40 hours, maybe if we would have given her back the 20% pay cut Dancer took from her to solve his insolvency issues, maybe if we would have been paying closer attention when Don Byrd kept talking about how one person - Tim - could do both clerk/treasurer job, maybe if we would have shown her a little support and realized what a gold mine we had with her, maybe if she would have had the least little backing from the council - especially the newly elected ones instead of them throwing her under the bus, maybe, just maybe, she'd still be here. But too late now. And shame on us all.

  3. I bet Tim gets put on 40 hours now AND gets a raise. There are names you could call this council but I think the blog master would probably delete this entire comment. So I will stick with calling you all asses for letting her go. I bet they can hear you all braying a mile away.

  4. But the good news is that we had great fall harvest festival.

  5. I for one will miss her. There is something to be said for continuity, and she has been the only person to weather the storms in our Village and remain true.
    Take care of yourself, Beth.
The new job is lucky to have you.

  6. Maybe we can get back to a part time treasurer and one that attends all council meetings, which is the way it was not long ago. And this council can continue to get this Village back on a good financial track.

  7. I wonder how the Village would have done with that hypothetical part-time Treasurer when they were in between Clerks, in between Managers and in between councils....How many times over the past 5 years? Geez people, show some appreciation.

  8. So let me get this straight: not having a treasurer is a step toward financial stability?
You're right. That sounds like a good plan to me. Hell of a plan.
Oh wait! You mean not having to pay her is a good plan! Gotcha!
But aren't we going to pay the new clerk more money to do both jobs?
Is there such a thing as a negative IQ ?????

  9. "...and this council can CONTINUE to get this Village back on a GOOD FINANCIAL TRACK"? Seriously?

  10. The treasurer was the HIGHEST PAID employee in the Village. Above the DPW workers; above the clerk. So, yes, getting a part time treasurer at a lesser pay will help this Village dig out from the hole it's in, whether any of you like it or not. And don't put blame on this council, the treasurer has been looking for a new job for quite some time, folks, well prior to the election. She was good at her job and I appreciate that, but leaving without a 2 week notice, not good. The saga continues.....

  11. The treasurer holds multiple degrees in accounting, is a member of the Michigan Municipal Treasurers Association, among other things. This is not someone who did the village accounts in Quick Books, folks. And frankly, Linda Dancer made more as clerk then either Beth as treasurer (don't forget that 20% pay cut) or Tim as clerk. The highest paid position until recently was Dan Dancer as manager, then King as Chief. And btw, the treasurer probably started looking for a new job when she was told by a newly elected councilman that everyone was expendable.

  12. The Treasurer was only the HIGHEST paid employee because the former manager and former police chief are both gone, they both made more. The DPW (former)supervisor was demoted and forced to take a pay cut, he used to make more. The Treasurer was just the last victim in a concerted effort to save money on the backs of the employees. Other than firing or chasing away employees what has this council done to 'save' money? At least this last exodus wont cost the village more money in lawsuits or unemployment benefits. What good would a two week notice have done anyway?

  13. Lets see here.. two week notice not good LOL...Last time former clerk shelly Poe.. I think her name was... she gave two weeks notice and was escorted out by the police that day... Lets see here last clerk Shelly Jennings was told she had two weeks before the new current clerk would start.. guess what.. she was told after 3 days that the next was her last day... Lets see here current president bird ahhh quit in the same manner with nothing more than an email supposedly due to health issues... guess he recovered fast as he changed his mind the next day and returned LOL.. HE should have stayed resigned...

There is no saga here in Stockbridge.. Nothing more than a completely incompitent council that can not see there fincacil picture beyond the tip of their nose.. One mistake after another.. one bad hire after another..

By the way mr council person (that is who you are since there is nobody else in stockbridge that would say anything bad about Mrs Flynn) is the cost savings from her salary going to go towards the water park I just read about in the paper today... This council is a joke... No manager... no treasurere... down one police officer that I know of...Law suit after law suit that you have lost...Sold off your last and best option for moving the village offices for and UNDISCLOSED AND UNVOTED ON AMOUNT... Two buyouts of contracts for police chief and manager costing what??? 70000.00.. Electric Bills popping up out of nowhere that you didnt even know where coming that blow your patchwork budget up.... Ohh did i mention that we have plans from chelsea lumber for building our new village offices... I wonder if the build water parks too... Bet you can get a discount for getting plans for both from chelsea lumber .... then you will have the money to hire a new treasurer and manager..... This is not a train heading for finacial recovery mr council person LOL... It is a crazy train heading for the cliff.... Mark my words You will not have a clerk for long as the stress will be to much... and when he goes... Mr byrd will get some more health issues as well and quit.... I sure hope they give 2 week notices too LOL...

  14. wow, so mad you couldn't even check your spelling - LOL - at least there are some strong opinions out there. But, better fact check before you spout any more. And, consider the source when you're reading the local paper - if one should call it that - since the facts are rarely portrayed correctly.

  15. Typical council response...Hide from issues by redirecting. more worried about spell check and two week notices instead of staying on task and important issues. Nothing of what i stated came from the newspaper.. I dare you to prove any of it wrong... I know you can't.. To bad you dont have any passion or strong opinion to think ahead with alittle forthought....

  16. People...stop arguing. I feel priviledged to have served as Treasurer for this Village for the past 5 years. My residents have been like familt to me. This council has a tough job ahead of them and I wish them all the best.

My decision to leave without 2 weeks comes from many reasons. I have been looking for full time employment since before the election, which I made sure the council was well aware of. They asked me to 'hold on' until after the elctiona nd for them to have some time to understand what they could do to fix my circumstances. When it became apparent that my hours were not going to be restored, I started looking again. At this time of year I made sure all taxes were collected, settlement was complete and all payouts were reconciled. I even came in my last day to complete one last payroll thereby giving them a complete 2 weeks before that needed to be done again. The council would have never been able to hire a new Treasurer for me to train in 2 weeks and Tim Sadowski had already assured the council that he knew all the software, therefore I neednt worry about the programs. The only difference giving notice would have made was to make the leaving that much more bittersweet and difficult. I will miss everyone and I know we will continue to remain good friends!

  17. Why are you throwing blame on the current council when they are trying to fix problems that have been masked for many years? And look what happens when people do not have their facts straight. They like to blame others. Seriously, GROW UP!!!!!!! Why can't everyone just get along and work together for the common good to get the village back on track?

  18. one other thing. Beth has done a GREAT job over the years despite the difficulties the village has had. Thank you Beth!! Good luck on your new job!!

  19. I tried to pay my water bill the other day. That was when I knew how much I was going to miss Beth. From now on I will be mailing it in even though I live just a couple of blocks from the office. It's worth the price of a stamp and envelope not to have to deal with the clerk.

  20. again... I have all my facts straight and again ask you to prove any thing I said incorret...This counsil has tried to balance the budget on the backs of the employees... Not one cost saving measure has been put in place... not one spending freeze has been put in place.. and AGAIN... ANOTHER BAD HIRE... has people in the community mailing their bills and spending their money rather than walk to see the offending could care less about this community clerk... why dont you do alittle research yourself and google the clerk and why he was really forced out.. ohhh i mean left for job advancment ...in all of his last jobs...You all thought the post master was a pain.... you have seen nothing yet...
