TOWN HALL MEETING TONIGHT

The Stockbridge Township Board is hosting a Town Hall Meeting tonight October 18 at 7:00 pm in the Township Hall to discuss policing issues. This is YOUR OPPORTUNITY to ASK QUESTIONS, GET ANSWERS, AND BE HEARD! All residents of both the Township and the Village are encouraged to attend!

  1. So sad. Another lost opportunity where the people in charge had no information, no handouts, no plans and could not tell anyone about a plan or even an alternative. If you want your citizens behind something, you have to provide information so informed decisions can be made. This community cannot afford any increases in taxes or fees.

Just so you understand something. #1 if the Village residents are being asked to vote on a potential millage, we the citizens of the village have every right to be there.
#2 Mr. Byrd told everyone at the last Village Council meeting that everyone should attend the town hall meeting so everyone can get information at the same time.
It seems to me, the township needs the village more right now than the other way around. If the township were to start their own department, it would cost a hell of a lot more, than the proposed plan right now. The village currently owns all the radios' the police cars and the terminals. They have a office and evidence room.
We already have our own police department. It makes more sense for the township to raise money then contract with the Village, rather than the village giving up control of our police department.
If the township decides to go with the county for coverage, buyers beware. We had the county covering the village and they were not providing the service they were contracted to provide. That’s why the Village council formed a police department to begin with.
As for Mr. Byrd, he may not be the best public speaker but his ideas do have some merit. Better than sitting there and watching the majority of the Township police committee sit up there and not say a word. Seems to me if they all believed in the idea they would be working harder to present the idea to the public. If they have done some so much information gathering then why were they sitting up there taking notes, like this was the first time they had ever heard the information that was being presented.
I have a feeling the Township knows that this has already been voted down by the voters once, they hope by adding the village onto a millage that it may help it pass.
The village residents are accustom to having police coverage, the township isn’t. Regardless of what happens, the village will have a police department, but I personally will not pay more so someone else can benefit from my tax dollars. Those people were so unorganized at that meeting that I have no faith in their ability to be intrusted with operating a department.

  5. Don Byrd showed his ignorance and stupidity during the meeting when he asked "how many township residents do we have?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Village Residents ARE TOWNSHIP residents. Village residents pay Township taxes as well. The 2 puppet masters should do a better job of preparing their puppet before he does their bidding in public.

  6. Are YOU kidding ME? It is so easy to make that mistake - Village vs Township - and Mr. Byrd recognized what he had said immediately; the audience laughed too. Get off from it. The Village and Township are finally trying to work together to serve the people of this community. THAT is a GOOD thing. Was is the best run meeting? No, but the committee worked for months gathering factual data and now they are trying to listen to the public for their concerns/ideas/information. Eventually they will provide the community with a reasonable and responsible proposal. Now, let's have some positive input here and start acting like grownups And let the committee do its work.

  8. I think a bigger police department is a great thing....but getting it funded???? That will be a miracle. Especially since the people in charge dont seem able to market it with any finesse or even in the best possible light. Someone with the ability to speak straight and with serious facts might be able to sell it but NOT Mr. Byrd (he is fast becoming known for his incoherent rants).

  9. Let the committee do its work? Are you serious? What has that committee done? NOTHING. "Tell us what you think?" Uh...we think you should present us with a plan that we can either approve or reject. A plan that has been researched and presented to both the village council and the township council, a plan they both agreed was a good one. THEN hold a town hall meeting that would actually let us know that the two boards are working for us on this issue.

  10. Action items seem to be in short supply for both the Village and the Township. Committee meetings are not brianstorming sessions. Finance committees and police committees with no forward movement or discussion of solutions. Where are the action items? Who takes responsibility for the actual work involved in providing solutions? Heck, even the problems arent clearly spelled out.....it's all so pointless and bordering on hopeless.
