Something to Consider

Policing. It's a complicated issue. Here are some things to consider if you live in the Village:
  1. You do NOT pay a dedicated millage for your police department. Funding comes from your General Fund.
  2. Understand that as of this moment, it's the Village that needs the Township - NOT the other way around. And it's all about cash flow.
  3. You have recently lost one of your full time officers due to budget constraints. One down, three to go.
If you live in the Township you might want to think about:
  1. Coverage of calls is hit-or-miss with the Ingham County Sheriff's Office. Ditto for State Police.
  2. It's going to take 2 mills to fund policing for the Township. Relax - it works out to less than a dollar a day.
  3. The Township has options.
We suggest you attend meetings on policing. The Township will be holding Town Hall Meetings, which they seem to do for all matters that affect their residents. The upcoming meeting will be held in the Township Hall on October 10 at 7:30.
Write down your questions and concerns. Bring them with you to the meeting. Ask. Ask again. And don't stop asking until you are satisfied you have the answers.
This is about your Township, your money and  most importantly, your safety.
And of course, Village residents are welcome to attend. Who knows? All this information might come in handy one day - if your money problems don't get resolved.
We stand by our assertions in our last post on policing. Might want to take another look at that.

  1. You need to come to the police committee meetings, blogmaster, you're off base on some of your assumptions.

  2. Nice post, but it would be nice to see an attempt to knock down us vs. them thinking. Hopefully this is well thought out for our community and provides a fair solution to all involved. Anxiously awaiting any accurate information for all of our benefit and protection.

Why do people find the need to flip the positive and accurate information to negative? Is it because the truth hurts? Is it because they have so much wrong in their own lives, they find the need to make sure everyone else is miserable too? Is it because they do not and cannot control everything? People of this village need to start attending meetings to see for themselves. Remember there is always 2 sides to every story. I find it sad that some people have to act like 2 year olds because they cannot have their way! GROW UP!!!!

  5. I think the blog master knows more about the police issues facing our community than just about any one else. That's why I get my police info here. And this blog doesn't have a dog in this fight. And I trust this information. At least its honest!

  6. Can you explain why the Village needs the Township more than vice-versa at this point? Council must be passing the hookah at their undisclosed meetings if they think Village residents are going to be excited about paying for township police coverage.

  7. How very true to the comment above, we pay enough and now with higher water bills the price of living in Stockbridge is crazy. They are smoking something if they think we want higher taxes. How many days in a year? At about a dollar a day how much does this increase your taxes? Do the math.

  8. The Village needs Township monies to continue to function. What are YOU smoking? Did you miss the part where the Village is BROKE, or did you think we were just kidding? Thanks to the former council and village manager YOU HAVE NO MONEY!!!! So an infusion of cash, disguised as Law Enforcement dollars$ would be so very welcome! The current plan presented by Mr. Byrd has a 2 mil assessment for the entire Stockbridge Township area, including the Village, with a REFUND of those same 2 mils to Village residents. Tell us please, how that amounts to the Village paying for Township police coverage?

  9. Take the time and try to explain why we need to vote on 2 mils in the village. I would like to be open mined about this but, I think we should just have the township bring there two mils to the table and pay for the police coverage that they want in the township. I know that way I wouldn't have to worry if the village was really going to give back the 2 mills.

  10. It dosn't make sence that we would vote for a two mill increase only to get it back. It dosn't make any sence. I have it on good authority that the township dosnt think the millage will pass in the township so they want to brain wash the village tax payers to vote for a millage, then it will pass. This makes no sence. None at all. Let the township raise their own money then come talk to the village. It dosnt make sence why the village should hand over control to the township. If this isnt true, then why does the township get to decide who the fifth person on the new board would be??? think about this people of the village. Vote NO on the police millage. Oh one more thing. Ever wonder why you have not sene the State Police in the village or townhsip lately????HHHMMMMMMMMMM........

  11. Hey--just wanted to say, if you think the Staties & the County haven't been around, you need to check out the Village on Friday & Saturday nights. They've been hanging in the Village Police office & around town.
